At Bendon, we’re always looking for ways to improve and innovate. Recently, we’ve been working hard to further extend our size range to be more inclusive, and we now offer 90 different sizes across our brands. When it comes to designing plus-size bras, there are very specific design and construction differences. These differences ensure that your curves are supported with the utmost comfort all day, every day. Read on to learn more about how to find your perfect plus size bra at Bendon Lingerie.
Plus-size bras are tailored to fit women with bigger band sizes rather than cup sizes. These bras feature a wider bra band, additional hook and eye closures, wider (sometimes even padded) bra straps and occasionally additional boning on the sides. The above features work together for maximum support and comfort to complement your beautiful curvy figure.
Sometimes it can feel like an absolute chore to shop for bras as a plus-size woman and, more often than not, end up walking out of a store empty-handed and right back at square one. Bra straps and bands are generally too thin and can cause spillage in all the wrong places, amounting to an overall lack of support and comfort. We can then find ourselves in an overly padded bra that has just increased our bust by a good few sizes, sometimes giving the appearance of being bigger than we actually are.
Plus-sized bras usually start from a D cup and band size of 14+. So, if this is you and you’ve been struggling to find the perfect bra, you’re not alone. Plus-sized bras are constructed to provide security and support for women with a fuller bust. Because this is the priority, sometimes women struggle to find plus-sized bras that are also cute and fashionable, with the right amount of padding, support and comfort. We understand that it can be frustrating shopping for plus size bras; that’s why we’re trying hard to improve in this space.
Contour bras come in a range of underwired and wire-free options - with moulded and padded cups made from foam or other lining materials that allow the bra to hold its shape, on and off the body. The moulded cups of a contour bra help shape your breasts to create a smooth and symmetrical appearance that feels natural under clothing. Styles like these usually come with lined straps that are better at sitting on our shoulders without slipping. These styles are great to wear when you want a more lifted and rounded look without going up a cup size.
Full coverage brasare a practical option for bigger busted women. They are designed to minimise cleavage and spillage at the top of the cup, with reinforced lower cup panelling to offer extra support. Other features include lightweight wires to allow for movement and flexibility, thicker straps, additional hook and eye closures and side bone inserts for maximum comfort. A bra for everyday wear and peace of mind if you’re wanting a more modest look.
Non-padded and unline bras are a fan-favourite amongst bustier women who are also curvy. As the name suggests, this style is designed with non-padded or unlined bra cups with underwire. Whilst the bra band does most of the work in providing support for your breasts; the underwire is the feature that creates structure and shape. Underwires are a thin semi-circle strip of material, usually made from metal, plastic, or resin, that is hidden in the channel at the bottom of the cup. They play an integral role in lifting and separating your breasts, and when matched with an unlined cup, it creates the ultimate plus size support without increasing your bust size. Give this bra style a try; we guarantee it’ll be love at first fit.
Wirefree bras are a comfortable choice without substituting support or versatility. There’s no need to rely on an underwire; you’ll get shaping and support from the moulded cups whilst maintaining that weightless feel and look. The fit goal here is to gently support the breasts without changing their appearance. The thicker and smoother fabric choice for wire-free bras allows for a more durable fit, and they are a great sleeping or post-surgery option, as well as a great substitute for during andpost-pregnancy.
A high level of breast support and hold is needed during any form of physical exercise to minimise breast tissue damage. Our sports bras guarantee just that with design features such as padded, high-cut cups and breathable fabrications. The wide-set straps offer extra support, as well as additional features like cross-back straps to maximise compression, which helps reduce impact during movement. Sports bras are the best styles to choose to help eliminate any pain and discomfort during high or low-intensity workouts.
Having a bigger back size can limit the availability of sexy, colourful bras but don’t let that put you off! We’ve always got your comfort in mind as we understand that it is an uncompromising factor when choosing that perfect bra.
With a fuller bust, the bra’s underwire and wider shoulder straps play a huge role in providing extra support to relieve any strain on your back and achieve that perky, well-lifted look. Being in the right band size is super important, too, as one that is too small will dig in on the sides of your body and underneath your breasts, which will be so uncomfortable!
When you combine the flush-fitting cups, straps and band, your posture will improve, and you’ll be walking with newfound confidence.

It may take multiple try-on sessions to find exactly what you’re looking for, but your body won’t stop thanking you once you've found it! The perfectly sized bra should fit snug in all the right places; cup, gore, band and straps. When a bra is too tight, underwire and straps can dig in, causing real discomforts, and your breasts may overflow at the top of the cups.
On the other hand, bras that fit too loosely will have straps falling down all day – no thanks! There will be a gap between your breast and the cup, resulting in the bra gaping open and an accidental flash, oops! When you’ve found that perfect fit, it should feel like you’re not wearing anything at all.
Gone are the days of constant adjusting - the straps will sit perfectly on your shoulders, the band will hold its place on your back without riding up, and your breasts will sit in the cups flawlessly, eliminating that side spillage look we all dread.
